Wrap Up Radar: Streets Made Innovators (SMI)
SMI dismantle the original and add a wandering bassline, some slick drums and some intermittent and gruff electric guitar, turning the track into a Jazz-meets-Grime crossover with their charismatic live instrumentation.
Think you know Grime? SMI are setting out to make you think again as they rework tracks by some of the scene’s most notable artists, creating some incredibly forward thinking and creatively engaging tunes.
Vandol & Carnage are the duo that make up SMI and their stripped back, minimalist versions of tracks from the likes of Wiley, Double S and Jammz have been turning plenty of heads. After locking themselves away in a North London studio for months, the pair have managed to record a number of solid remixes and have proceeded to make quite a considerable mark on the UK scene.
Their most recent track sees the duo remix the J Beatz classic ‘8 Bar Mucktion’, which features the likes of Big Narstie, Tre Mission and Big H. In their trademark style, SMI dismantle the original and add a wandering bassline, some slick drums and some intermittent and gruff electric guitar, turning the track into a Jazz-meets-Grime crossover with their charismatic live instrumentation.
It’s a process that is unique to this gifted pair and their innovative sounds provide a truly alternative look into the possibilities of what you can achieve when merging MCs and live music. With more new music set to be shared across the rest of 2016 and with the buzz about these guys getting bigger and bigger every day, we can’t wait to hear what musical concoction they come up with next.
