Kojey Radical Presents His ‘23Winters’ EP
Premiering on The Source on the 23/2, ‘23Winters’ is explorative as it is expressive. The voice of Kojey’s Father makes an appearance throughout the project, so we have this crazy insight into a very personal relationship between a father and son – something that isn’t celebrated enough in music.
Kojey’s dad tells tales of growing up in Ghana, its move from a British colony into an independent African country and decision to live in England. ‘23Winters’ is not just a project centred around Ghana, it is a body of work that holds two very different experiences together and shows the gulf in differences between Kojey and his dad may not be so big after all. On my second listen, it occurred to me, that in a way, ’23Winters’ is a sort of musical/poetical Bildungsroman – listeners follow Kojey on a journey paved with his mental musings, education and development into the artist we have today.
On production duties, ’23Winters’ features appearances from KZ The Producer, Lupus Cain, Fwdslxsh, Selvsse, Niels Kirk and New Machine; it’s eclectic both sonically and contextually.
Whether it’s history, love, wisdom or honesty, ’23Winters’ has it. Take this one in below:
