Ty Dolla $ign: Live at XOYO
LA rapper Ty Dolla $ign brought his unique show to London's XOYO...
Multi-talented LA singer and rapper, Ty Dolla $ign stopped by London venue XOYO on the current leg of his European tour, following the release of his very impressive 'Sign Language' mixtape. MTV - The Wrap Up's Josh headed down to catch all of the action on the night...
Prior to the rap sensation taking to the stage, the crowd were amply warmed up by DJ Semtex who spun some of this year's biggest beats, as well as South West London rapper Isaiah Dreads - who impressed the crowd prior to Ty's entrance. After listening to his "Sign Language" mixtape on repeat for more than a week, I was very excited to see what the 'Or Nah' rapper's live show would consist of, and he definitely lived up to every expectation - starting the show off strong with crowd favourites, such as 'Toot It & Boot It', and other songs from his Beach House EP.
Although he's yet to release an album, Ty Dolla $ign already feels like a veteran in the game, commanding attention from the crowd - who sang along word for word to tracks such as, The Weeknd assisted 'Or Nah', and 'Paranoid'. During his performance of '4 A Young', the Taylor Gang rapper asked for all lights to be switched off in the venue, resulting in a flood of phone lights illuminating the room. At this point, Ty sat on one of the stage speakers and began to sing to his die-hard fans - a moment which, although it had a tinge of R&B cliché, seemed very authentic and definitely showed the connection between the singer and his audience.
Towards the end of the set, Ty decided to show just how much he appreciated everyone who came out to support him by lunging himself into the crowd to take pictures with members of the crowd, who were clambering over each other to get that all important "selfie".
If you are wondering if his live show is as good as his studio sound, the answer is yes. The all-encompassing rapper can play several instruments, as well as sing, rap and produce, alongside his natural knack for owning the stage. Our verdict? The Taylor Gang member certainly knows how to put on a show.
