Two Dead In Plane Crash On Tom Cruise Movie Set

Crew members perish in tragic accident in Colombia...

Two crew members have died in a plane crash on the set of Tom Cruise drug trade drama Mena.

US film pilot Alan David Purwin and Colombian Carlos Berl were named as the fatalities, while another American pilot, Jimmy Lee Garind, was severely injured and rushed to hospital in Medellin.

Cruise - a trained pilot himself - was not involved in the incident, which saw a twin-engined Aerostar crash against the Alto de la Clarita mountain.

Local authorities have reported that bad weather was involved.

Movie studio Universal said: "An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following production wrap on the film Mena resulting in two fatalities.

"Further details are not available at this time. On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time."

The movie is directed by Doug Liman and tells the story of Barry Seal (Cruise), a US pilot who worked for drug baron Pablo Escobar before becoming an informant for the Drug Enforcement Agency.
