Tom Hanks Interview
We were at the Charlie Wilsons War premiere to ask him about working with Julia Roberts and his love of Aston Villa
New political comedy Charlie Wilsons War has had its premiere in Leicester Square last night.
Star Tom Hanks appeared on the red carpet sporting an Aston Villa scarf and explained to MTV News why:
Well I know a good football match when I see one. Years ago I was watching TV a pretty good game with Aston Villa and I thought I like that name and those colours. Anybody can root for Chelsea for gods sake!
The films true story follows a congressman, CIA agent and a beautiful socialite who plot to fund armies in Afghanistan fighting against Russia. Hanks plays the title role and told us what attracted him to the film:
You couldnt make this up and yet its non fiction! he said. But no one has ever heard that it actually happened, people can come out of the theatre and say I didnt know that. Those are the movies I like and theyre also the type of movies I like to make.
Also starring in the film are Toms fellow OSCAR winners Julia Roberts and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Phil is a mystery man, a quiet guy he comes in and hides behind his beard or his hair or glasses and (he) gets it done. Julia is a delight. Shes like working with a good friend. You have a conversation with her at the same time you make the movie.
Charlie Wilsons War opens Friday January 11
