Petty Won’t Sue Chili Peppers

Singer Tom Petty has said he will not sue Red Hot Chili Peppers for copying one of his songs.

After a US radio station claimed that the Chili Peppers had plagiarised Pettys track Mary Janes Last Dance in their recent single Dani California, the singer was said to have consulted his lawyers about taking the band to court.

However, he has told Rolling Stone that hes not going to bother. The truth is, I seriously doubt that there is any negative intent there, said Petty. And a lot of rock & roll songs sound alike.
Ask Chuck Berry. The Strokes took American Girl (for their song Last Nite), and I saw an interview with them where they actually admitted it. That made me laugh out loud. I was like, OK, good for you. It doesnt bother me.
