Transformers: Age Of Extinction Gets Explosive New Trailer

Mark Wahlberg's relationship with Optimus Prime suggested in action-packed new promo...

Mark Wahlberg and Ted are already BFFs, but who says you can't have more than one BFF?

Wahlberg is revealed in the new trailer for Transformers: Age Of Extinction to have found a new high-profile friend in the form of Optimus Prime, the legendary leader of the Autobots and constant defender of the people of Earth.

The 42-year-old star plays car mechanic Cade Yeager (which may or may not be an anagram) in the movie, which sees him become acquainted with the transforming robot.

The two-and-a-half minute trailer for Michael Bay's latest movie promises mayhem on a massive scale - with cities being devastated and ships raining down from the sky.

We don't see Wahlberg and Prime picnicking together, or going on a long walk down the beach. They aren’t holding hands at the movie theatre, sharing a comically-sized serving of popcorn. But they do have heart-to-hearts. And Wahlberg's character is clearly elated to have discovered the existence of a new Transformer on his own soil.

Prime's voiceover says: "After all we have done humans are hunting us, but I fear we are all targets now.

"This is not war, it's human extinction.

"How many more of my kind must be sacrificed?"

And as he adds "we need a new army", the trailer cuts to a fire-breathing robot dinosaur.

The film opens on 27 June this year.
