There's No Business Like Snow Business: 5 Reasons Why Les Arcs Is The Perfect Ski Getaway
With great powder comes great responsibility...
Skiing...
Releasing the stress of daily life and workplace hassles by flying down snow-covered mountains. Getting out in the fresh mountain air, recharging your batteries and most importantly invigorating your well-being. What's there not to love?
We headed to the preposterously beautiful resort of Les Arcs in south-eastern France to hit the slopes, and discover why the region is a must-visit for fans of snow, skiing, snowboarding and sensational apre-skis.
1. It’s In One of The World’s Biggest Ski Areas...
The Les Arcs ski area has over 200km of pistes, with the majority of them being above 2000 metres in altitude. Longer days later in the season mean that the ski lifts are open earlier and close later, so you can really pack in a great deal of time on the slopes, and there's such a variety to the runs that it's perfect for everyone from beginners to experienced skiers.
There are four villages within the French resort, all at different altitudes, with all four having junior-level slopes near to the apartments and chalets, and lifts that have been specially designed for ease of-use for beginners.
A skiier's dream.
2. The Food
For every black run, there must be a black gateau.
Travel with an operator like Ski Total, and following a long day on the slopes, you'll arrive back to your chalet to freshly made cake and tea, followed by a freshly cooked three course meal (and buckets of wine, obvs).
Les Arcs also offers a fantastic range of restaurants and local eateries, full of fondue, raclette and mouth-watering meat dishes.
3. Super Chalets
Les Arcs has an array of accommodation options to choose from, including four high altitude villages and three lower lying villages.
We stayed in the Chalet Panda apartment within the Chalet de l’Ours residence, which was ski chalet goals. Gorgeous wooden pannelling, toasty fires and comfy sofas as standard.
Throw in an indoor swimming-pool in the adjacent Altitude Residence, an in-chalet sauna, and it's a miracle we even got to the slopes in the first place.
Access to the slopes couldn't be easier too, with the pistes and nearest ski-lift just a mere 250m from your front door.
4. That Scenery. We mean.
Two of the villages sit just beneath the Aiguille Rouge, at the highest point of the slopes. From there you can enjoy breathtaking views across the valleys, and stunning views across the valley to Mont Blanc from Arcs 1600 and 1800.
Insta won't know what hit it.
5. The Slopes
Les Arcs is regarded as one of the leading ski resorts in the world, with the slopes offering long descents, plenty of advanced pistes for more experienced skiiers and plenty to keep beginners happy. The resort has a good mixture of high and lower woodland runs, too.
Perfect powder, breathtaking sights, and wonder-inducing wildlife that'll have your jaw scraping the skis as you coast down.
We heart Les Arcs.
