6 Reasons Why Barcelona Is The Place To Live The High Life This Summer

Rooftop cocktails, amazing architecture and ALL THE SANGRIA...

With so many European cities to pick from, choosing your ideal week (or even weekend) getaway break can be a real headscratcher.

So huzzah for Barcelona, which offers more than enough architectural, gastronomical and hotel(ical?) brilliance to guarantee a great time away.

Here be six reasons why it's a must-visit this summer...

1. Rooftop cocktails are where it’s at

You can take your pick of drinks with a view in BCN, but we fell instantly in love with Hotel 1898’s stunning roof terrace bar which is a total oasis in the heart of the city. The roof terrace at the Sky bar is also worth checking out, and if heights aren’t your thing the wet deck at the W hotel delivers on views and world renowned DJs but at a more manageable altitude.

2. The W is hotel goals

Rising up from the sea with a breath-taking sail-like design, the W Hotel is undoubtedly the best place in the city to take in views of Barcelona’s buzzing coast line. It has three restaurants, two stunning pools, a beach club and an exclusive nightclub on the 26th floor. But it’s the legendary brownie buffet in the spa that we want to go back for!

To top it off, the W has just completed a multi-million Euro renovation, injecting new life into its 473 guest rooms and suites. Their ‘urban aquatic’ theme brings together city and sea with fun marbled carpets designed to mimic the sea floor and touches of rose gold which make it feel bang on trend.

3. You can take a private cooking class

There are loads of these to choose from, but we picked Bear on a Bike’s market to table food experience and learned to make a delicious four course Catalan feast. We also learned to drink white wine from an arm’s length out a traditional Spanish ‘Porron’. You choose what’s most impressive.

4. It’s an easy place to be a culture vulture

There are some seriously impressive sights to see in Barcelona, including Gaudi’s infamous La Sagrada Familia. Skip the lines and take a private tour with a local guide.

5. Champagne. Boat. Sold.

Tour company Stoke Travel offer legendary champagne sunset boat parties between April and September. If getting glammed up and popping bottles on a white catamaran is your thing, look no further.

6. It’s a foodie heaven

Barcelona is at the leading the way with modern international cuisine, and as the result the city has 23 Michelin starred restaurants to pick from (if your wallet allows). Surely next in line is the fantastic Uma. Here you’ll find highly inventive dishes that are impeccably presented, but with a relaxed sense of fun. We refer you to the foie gras cotton candy.
