6 Ways To Experience Luxury And Adventure In Oman

For those who want their luxury travels spiked with a shot of adrenaline.

A trip to Oman is notlike anything you’ll have experienced before. Sat on the Arabian Peninsula, Oman’s landscapes are vast and varied featuring long stretches of stunning coastline and miles of mammoth desert. MTV were lucky enough to experience both, staying at two of Anantara’s stunning luxury resorts; Al Baleed Resort Salalah and Al Jabal Al Akhdar - both offering lashings of sheer decadence alongside a shot of pure adrenaline. Here’s how to experience luxury adventure travel at itsfinest.

1. Suites that will leave you stunned

Perched 2000 feet above sea level sitsAnatara’s resort Al Jabal Al Akhdar, a spot that looks straight out of a James Bond movie. Its lavish rooms and suites all feature jaw dropping surrounding views of the Hajar Mountains of Oman – the perfect backdrop for your very own private infinity pool.

The Ak Baleed Resort Salalah meanwhile offers the perfect retreat for beach lovers with your private pool villa, just a stone’s throw away from the golden beach.

2. Live your 127 hours dream without losing a limb

Taking advantage of the breathtaking natural terrain it finds itself perched on top of, Anantara recently opened its Ultimate Jabal Activity Wall.

Joined by two seasoned instructors, fearless guests make their way 200 metres across the cliff edge along a Via Ferrata steel cable before taking Oman’s first mountain zip lines.

3. Spas that are out of this world

Both resorts house comprehensive wellness programs so a trip to their onsite spas are a must.

Indulge yourself in the wide variety of treatments – our personal favourite was an intensely relaxing frankincense massage – and assortment of amenities including sauna, steam room, Turkish or Moroccan Hammam, and whirlpools.

4. Hang out with cutest locals

When staying in Salalah, make sure to take an excursion from Juweira Marina to watch some of the locals in their natural habitat. And by locals, we of course mean dolphins.

The boat will take you out along the coastline where you’ll be greeted by a pod of the friendly mammals, eager to pop up from the depths beneath to say hello.

Top tip: be prepared to take approx. 5632 pictures of clear blue sea as these adorable creatures are surprisingly tricky to capture on camera.

5. The best way to wake up

Let’s face it, doing a downward facing dog in your local gym class can only get you so far on thejourney to finding your inner Zen. Taking part in a sunrise yoga class overlooking Hajar Mountains? Now that’s the way to find it.

6. Views for days

If there is one thing that is undeniable about Oman, it’s that it is home to some of the world’s most incredible landscapes. When visiting Al Jabal Al Akhdar be sure to take one of their signature cultural walks.

We were guided by one of the hotel’s Omani Mountain gurus who helped us explore and learn more about surrounding villages Al Aqr, Al Ayn and Ash Shirayjah.

In Salalahcheck out the Al Mughsayl blowholes. Overlooking the idyllic coastline, the holes can reach thirty metreshigh, quite the spectacle.

7. And finally, gain respect for your favourite celebs who effortlessly glide on a paddleboards while being papped
