This Blue Planet II Airbnb is What Wet Dreams Are Made Of
Not that kind of wet dream...
Airbnb and BBC Worldwide have combined forces to make your deep blue dreams come true - after announcing that The Alucia, the research and exploration vessel featured in Blue Planet II, has been listed on Airbnb.
Before you get your booking fingers ready though hold up, because there’s two things you need to know.
1. David Attenborough is not included in the rental, so no - he can not read you a bedtime story.
2. It’s not open to the public as such - because only 3 lucky ocean lovers will have a chance to spend two nights onboard the vessel, owned by exploration pioneer OceanX.
Yup, those selected (each of whom can bring one guest - yayah), will join an active research trip in the Bahamas (THE. BAHAMAS.) making the ship their temporary home and journeying up to 1000m beneath the waves in one of the vessel’s submersibles.
Guests will be hosted by Blue Planet II producer Orla Doherty, who said: “Having spent 500 hours in the submarine and countless weeks at sea filming the deep sea for Blue Planet II, the Alucia almost feels like my second home.
“I now feel privileged to be able to share this once in a lifetime experience with promising ocean heroes and show them the wonders of life in the ocean.”
The trip was inspired by research that reveals 85% of Brits are seriously worried about the ocean’s future, with over a third wanting to learn more about how to protect it.
Joe Gebbia, Founder and Chief Product Officer, Airbnb said: “Our oceans are in danger, and what better way to know what we can do to help than through the very eyes of underwater animals at risk and with the expertise of the world’s leading scientists?”
Very important. Also the house rules are a lol:
House Rules
● No skinny dipping. The fish might be watching.
● Avoid watching Jaws or The Abyss before your trip.
● No sleepwalking or night swimming.
● No selfies with the deep sea creatures.
● No fishing--we don’t eat our research subjects.
● Leave the high heels and tie pins at home--this is a research vessel, not a cruise ship.
