This Ibiza Icon Is Coming To London & Here’s Why You Should Get Excited
Three words - burlesque, fireworks, FOOD...
You think Ibiza, you think massive super-clubs, eardrum-obliterating house music and partying ‘til the break of dawn.
And while we’re not averse to any of those, it’s sometimes refreshing to explore the lesser-known Balaeric paths. Case in point – Lio Ibiza, a titillating, exhilarating and endlessly entertaining alternative boasting professional singers, dancers, acrobatics, comedy and burlesque.
With the news that it’s heading to the London Cabaret Club in February 2019, MTV headed out to Ibiza to bring you the lowdown on what to expect.
Imagine the Cirque du Soleil spliced with Dita von Teese, and you’re halfway to imagining the joyous mash-up of acrobatics and burlesque on offer at Lio.
You’ll be astonished at what human bodies can do during the acrobatic performances (we ‘WTF-ed’ more than a few times during the show), while the burlesque performers were equal parts sassy, sexy and cheeky.
It’s a mix you wouldn’t find anywhere else on the island.
The X Factor ain’t got nothin’ on this
Three words strike fear into our hearts.
Loungeclub, singer, and karaoke.
We’ve all experienced the cringing awkwardness of a holiday warbler bombarding your ears while you try and sip a relaxing drink.
Thankfully, Lio’s sonic performers are the complete opposite.
If the local singers hired in London are anything like those we saw in Ibiza, you’ll be in for a treat. X Factor has absolutely nothing on these guys.
Astonishing performances like that need to be accompanied by gastronomy equally as jaw-dropping (or should we say mouth-watering).
Just look at the picture above – an incredible deconstructed fruit cheesecake that was as good to look at as it was to eat. A la c-ART, amirite?
Throw in gorgeously bodied wines, and sushi to die for, and we have no hesitation in advising that you pack an additional belt before heading to one of the shows.
The mind-blowing dancing
If it’s one thing Lio nails, it’s how to excel at putting on a show, and its dancers deliver.
Not only will the setlist have you wanting to get up and bop along yourself (Rihanna, Julia Michaels, yes please), but there are literal fireworks to keep you riveted to the performances.
One performance culminated with a sexy, fierce dancer pouring sparks over herself. Flashdance, eat your heart out.
Lio nails the perfect balance between elegance, class and luxury, and entertaining lunacy.
Part cabaret, part Ibiza luxury chillout, and 100% brilliant, it’s as fun a night out as we can remember happening - and we have no doubt it'll be equally as brilliant when it debuts in London.
