The Fast & Furious: Supercharged Ride At Universal Orlando Is As Ridiculous(ly Amazing) As You'd Imagine
With the launch of Fast and Furious: Supercharged, Universal Orlando continues to be the best place on Earth - sorry Disneyland!
The Floridian heat in spring is a good enough reason in itself to escape the ever-changing seasons of the UK, although there’s no place quite like the paradise of Orlando’s Universal bubble.
Earlier this month MTV UK were invited to the launch of Orlando’s Universal Studios' latest blockbuster attraction as the Fast and Furious: Supercharged ride joined the world-famous theme park. How was it, we hear you ask? Well, we’re happy to confirm we survived it.
Besides being in a car chase with Vin Diesel, we explored everything else Universal has to offer - from living out your popstar dreams in the most epic karaoke bar of all time to eating insanely delicious donuts crafted by witchcraft, here is everything you need to do at the Universal Orlando Resort...
Join The Fast Family In Supercharged
Okay, let’s talk Fast and Furious: a die-hard fan? None the wiser? While we’d recommend watching the movies regardless of the ride, the thrill of Fast and Furious: Supercharged doesn’t require you to be a mega-fan because it’ll get you going no matter what. Seriously.
The state-of-the-art attraction brings you on set of the movies from the moment you start queuing, as you walk past the famous BBQ set-up on your way into the warehouse that houses over a dozen of the sports cars that feature in the films. With replicas of the scene-stealers that Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson drive, as well as brand new cars made especially for this immersive ride, it’ll make you feel like you’re standing in 50 Cent’s garage. Sadly, you can’t drive them, but that’s probably for the best, right?
The ride itself practically inserts you into a movie scene as holograms of the franchise’s stars send you on a mission and zoom through the streets of Los Angeles right by your side. Buckle up because it’s one insane ride!
Also, there’s a lovely tribute to Paul Walker on the BBQ table you should look out for.
But this summer isn't all about getting your muscle-bound car-adventure on....
Be A Wizard, (Like) Harry!
Universal's Islands of Adventure park is an absolute dream for any fan of classic film series like Jurassic Park and, of course, Harry Potter. The surreal setting plants you on to the Hogwarts grounds and will make you feel like you've stepped into your TV screen. While you can feel the magic during the day, the Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts is an otherworldly experience for any Potter fan as the iconic location comes alive with a projected lights show.
Also, a must-do: The Incredible Hulk Coaster is one of the funnest rides between the two parks, so make sure you get flipped around on that!
Magical Doughnuts For Your Sweet Tooth
The Fast and Furious wasn’t the only new opening during our trip as Voodoo Doughnut, the doughnut shop of dreams made its baby pink mark on the Universal grounds. The first shop on the East Coast, the park’s thrill seekers can now enjoy doughnuts made up from a secret recipe of witchcraft and glamour. There’s dozens of different kinds served up with innuendo galore and gloriously camp aesthetics that’ll satisfy even the sweetest tooth.
Unleash Your Inner Rockstar
Besides rollercoasters and surreal simulations, Universal has its own little downtown area where all of the fun happens outside of the park. CityWalk is a dream land of restaurants, shops and bars with the tastiest foods around - did somebody say sushi hamburgers?! - and the funnest nights possible.
Rising Star is CityWalk’s answer to The X Factor, Pop Idol, The Voice, Wherever’s Got Talent... you name it. Karaoke is like marmite, I know, although this isn’t any old jukebox and microphone set-up. With a full band and backing singers/dancers on a lit-up stage, it’s hard to resist letting your inner showman or showgirl out! Whether you’re brave enough to belt out a bit of Celine Dion or fancy yourself a bit of ‘Havana’, your moment in the spotlight is simply waiting for you... and - trust us - it’s SO much fun.
For the record, we did our best for the Spice Girls legacy and zig-a-zig-ahh’d to ‘Wannabe’. It may have been iconic.
The Water Park To End Them All
Universal upped its already-amazing theme park game last year with the opening of its very own water theme park, Volcano Bay. The luxury park is a queue-free haven of inflatables, lazy pools, low-key terrifying (but super fun!) water rides and plush cabanas that make your tanning time even better than usual.
Complete with a volcano - it won't erupt, you have our word - in the middle of the park, it really feels like you're on a deserted island somewhere... just one with huge rollercoasters and places to get food or drink so you don't have to start attacking a coconut tree. Win win!
