15 Thoughts You're Guaranteed To Have At Universal Orlando's Major Mardi Gras Celebrations
Why have one single Mardi Gras when you can have one every night up until the end of March?
That's the thinking at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and after screaming your face off on rollercoasters, drinking fluorescent green cocktails, riding an actual float in the parade and then watching an act like Fifth Harmony smashing it on a stage slap bang in the middle of the park, we guarantee that you'll agree.
I was born to ride on a float
It's probably the most fun you will ever have and if you're a Universal Passholder, you can sign up to be in with a chance to ride on one and throw beads in the nightly Mardi Gras parade. If you're staying at a Universal hotel, you can also be in with a chance - just ask at the front desk.
Throwing beads is my life now
Riding along with music pumping, confetti flying everywhere, the wind in your hair and crowds clamouring your name (ok, clamouring for the beads you're throwing)? Probably about as close to being Justin Bieber as you're ever going to get.
The performers are insaaaaane
You haven't lived until you've seen the stilt-walkers and performers all decked out in their incredibly intricate Mardi Gras themed costumes.
A gig in a theme park = way better than watching a gig absolutely anywhere else
How do you improve a Fifth Harmony, NE-YO or Jason Derulo gig? Put it in a theme park! Especially when the stage is slap bang in front of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and you spend the entire show dancing and simulataneously watching people squealing their way around the ride in the dark.
Cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails, please
Because nothing says party mood like the signature cocktails in varying fluro colours that you can get around the parks. Yum.
I have to ride the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit IMMEDIATELY
How could you resist after seeing how much fun everyone's having? Plus it's the biggest ride in the park and you get to pick your own personal theme tune to have blaring in your ears as you plummet vertically over the top and twist and turn your way around the track.
Ok I need to ride it just one more time
It's just THAT good.
The new Kong ride is a-m-a-z-i-n-g
As is basically every single ride. If you love the immersive and 3D rides then don't miss Escape From Gringotts, the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, the Minions ride, the E.T. Adeventure (it's a CLASSIC) and our absolute fave, Harry Potter And The Forbidden Journey, which actually takes place inside the Hogwarts castle. If roller coasters are your bag you can't miss the newly re-opened The Incredible Hulk coaster or Dragon Challenge, which involves two different coasters twining in and out of each other.
Eating at Mythos has ruined all other food for me for the rest of my life
Voted Best Theme Park Restaurant In The World many, many times don't ya know. Plus the freh bread, lamb burgers and falafel waffles are to DIE for.
Although the cajun cuisine is pretty damn good too
Well, it wouldn't be Mardi Gras without some gumbo straight from Louisiana, would it...? Head to the French Quarter to try it for yourself.
Can I live or move into Hogesmeade?
Srsly, it almost makes up for the fact that you're STILL waiting for your Hogwarts letter to arrive.
OMG THERE'S AN ACTUAL HONEYDUKES
The perfect place to stock up on magical treats for your mates back home. Plus an Ollivander's to pick up a wand and a Madam Malkin's to get your fill of wizarding wear. Just mind you watch out for the cursed objects on sale in Borgin & Burke's down Knockturn Alley...
Why can't the train to work be more like the Hogwarts Express?
A real Hogwarts Express connects the Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure parks, so if you have a ticket you can ride between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade (one is in each park) all day long.
Or at least a little more like the water taxis?
The free shuttle that connects the parks and the resort's gorge hotels is the perfect place to dry off a bit after a day rinsing the water rides.
I'm gonna redecorate my room like Seuss Landing when I get home
The bright colours are all kinds of trippy and no visit is complete without a ride on the weird and oh so wonderful Seuss-ified carousel either.
THIS PLACE IS JUST THE BEST
Can I move in? No, seriously..?
