Tulisa Cleared Of Drug Charge As Trial Collapses

Former X Factor judge seen grinning in the dock as she is formally discharged...

Tulisa has been cleared this morning of a drugs charge, as a judge declared the case has collapsed.

Southwark Crown Court heard that there were "strong grounds to believe" that The Sun's undercover reporter Mazher Mahmood had "lied" at an earlier hearing.

"There are strong ground for believing Mr Mahmood told me lies," the judge told jury.

"Where there has been some aspect of the investigation or prosecution of a crime which is tainted in some way by serious misconduct to the point that the integrity of the court would be compromised by allowing the trial to go ahead, then the court has no alternative but to say “this case must go no further”, he said.

Reading a statement outside the court, Tulisa said:"Mahmood has now been exposed by my lawyers openly lying to the judge and jury. These lies were told to stop crucial evidence going before the jury. This evidence shows that I told Mahmood's long-standing driver that I disapproved of drugs, which is the truth."

She went on to add: "As someone who has had my life ruined for the last year I strongly believe that this type of entrapment should not be allowed to happen to anyone."

"I have not been able to work for a year, and I am now looking forward to resuming my career."

Contostavlos had pleaded not guilty to the supply of class A drugs.

The singer was accused of boasting that she cold organise cocaine for a reporter, and put him in touch with Mike GLCwho supplied the drug.

Mahmood told the singer he could get her a role in a Hollywood film with Leonardo DiCaprio if she would broker the deal.

Michael Coombs', also known as Mike GLC, case has also been halted, despite his guilty plea on the opening day of trial.

'Mr Coombs plea of guilty does not, and cannot, wipe out the improper conduct which has led me to end this case.'Just as the case cannot properly proceed against Miss Contostavlos, so also it cannot proceed properly against him'.
