Henry BoonWe did guys, another week done. HI and wlcome back to F**k It Friday - a weekly feature from MTV Breaks that’s all about saying a big “f**k yeah” to the most excellent people who’ve said “f**k it” (probably) and taken a leap of faith to make big things happen.
Cos it’s not about just having ideas – it’s about believing in yourself, and making them happen. AMIRIGHT?
So who’s next up in the FIF roll call of honour, drumroll…it’s half of twenty one pilots and whole of our hearts, Tyler Joseph!
Growing up, Tyler was all set to be a mega basketball star and even had a college scholarship lined up. One afternoon though he dug out an old piano from his mother’s closet and with absolutely no musical experience, he told Columbus Alive, “I remember figuring out that one button worked really well with the other button. That’s all I knew is “these two buttons work well together””.
Based on the fact he thought two buttons sounded quite nice together alone (we also love that he calls piano keys “buttons”), Tyler decided that music was what he really wanted to do and decided to peruse that instead of basketball. He tried to get into a few colleges for music but his lack of training meant he was unsuccessful.
He knew this was what he wanted to do though and believed in his ear for music rather than formal training so he said “f**k it” (probably) and turned down his basketball scholarship, rounded up a few other musicians and started simply learning by doing. Before long he and a few school friends had formed twenty one pilots and the rest as they say, is history. Way to “f**k it” Tyler!

8. Sometimes, Josh uses his superhero powers to take down Tyler in real life, not just on Twitter. -
9. They had VERY similar (not similar) musical influences growing up. -
10. Although they do both love Blink 182, obviously. -
11. They manage to mix hip hop with pretty much any other genre of music, as demonstrated by their MTV VMA 2015 performance feat.none other than A$AP Rocky. -
12. Their live shows are basically the best, with Josh frequently drumming on top of the crowd... -

14. Those shows have come a long way since TOP’s early days, as highlighted by the amazing Ode to Sleep video, which shows them playing to 12 people in 2011 #wbw -
15. Whether they are playing to 12 or 12,000 people, Tyler and Josh always give it their utmost - they really don’t know what to do when they are not writing or performing. -
16. Their Clique is generous; Tyler has revealed that he and Josh bought the first skele masks they used to wear on stage, but every other mask has been a gift from fans. -
17. Tyler and Josh frequently shout out the Clique for fan art and are generally very appreciative of their fans. Tyler cries a lot thinking about all the love. -
18. This is one band not afraid of embracing all the feelings and emotions, no matter how difficult. -
19. Clique members in cities affected by recent terror attacks have turned to TOP song lyrics for comfort. -
20. TOP spread a very positive message of love, especially towards koala bears. -
21. Lyrical genius Tyler accidentally created an entirely new way to describe stuff that is good, which is now used by the Clique worldwide.
