Twenty One Pilots: ‘It’s Illegal To Not Like Coldplay’
EXCLUSIVE! Plus the duo talk being label mates with Paramore...

American duo Twenty One Pilots, better known as Coldplay[/uuid], we asked the Holding On To You hit makers how daunting playing such a venue as the Barfly would be.
Singer Tyler began: “Because of so many bands that have played The Barfly, I'm assuming that I'm going to walk in and just feel it in the air. But we've experienced a few of those feelings of knowing that you're in the presence of a lot of history.
Tyler continued: “Right after that feeling of 'oh my gosh, I'm here right now,' I think that Josh and I will be able to say: 'We think we belong here,' and not in a way that's offensive or full of ourselves, but I think that we're really good and I think we were born to play music there, along with all the other amazing musicians that have been there.
“I've always looked up to The Killers, so it's kind of cool to have anything to do with them, honestly that'll be a cool moment for me.”
Drummer Josh added: “For me, Coldplay. Ever since I first heard them I was hooked. And I don't know what it was exactly. I think those guys and their creativity and their personalities is something to look up to and be inspired by.”
“You can't not like Coldplay,” Tyler interjected. “I think it's illegal!”
Last year Twenty One Pilots were signed to Fueled By Ramen, the same label as Paramore so what’s it like being in the ‘family’?
Josh: “I've listened to them for a long time actually, and so it's cool to be label mates. Especially because I think I'm learning it the more that we're a part of it.
“This is our first time with a label and you hear people say 'Oh my label's like family' and you don't really understand that until you're a part of it.”
He continued: “We just met [Paramore] last week and it truly was a 'welcome to the family' thing and they were very nice. You never really know what to expect when you meet a band, but it's great. I think that having friendships like that having a sort of family mentality is important when you're working with a label. You're travelling a lot and working hard so it's really cool and I love seeing them be successful.
Tyler added: “It's kind of assumed that most bands are full of themselves…like us! This is when I sit back and say ‘Yeah, can I have some sunglasses please?’”
