Vampire Academy’s Zoey Deutch On Twilight And Choosing Between T*ts Or Legs
MTV Style caught up with Zoey to hear all about filming Vampire Academy, her thoughts on Twilight comparisons and her number one fashion mantra…
By Jennifer Lynn
It’s been a while since Zoey Deutch filmed Vampire Academy, the movie of Richelle Mead’s best-selling young adult novel, which she stars in alongside Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland. Released in the US back in February, Zoey admits “I haven’t even thought about the movie in a while”, which is understandable considering she already has another three films lined up.
Having made a firm friend in Hyland on-set, Zoey shared her other celebrity style crushes, must-follow tweeter and favourite fashion mantra with MTV Style…
MTV Style: With Vampire Academy being based on a YA novel about vampires, how do you handle Twilight comparisons?
Zoey Deutch: I mean it’s obviously so completely different that I don’t really have to handle it, I just say that they’re totally different films. I’ve seen a couple of the Twilight movies and I love them.
MTV Style: Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Zoey: Edward. I don’t care about the repercussions of my actions for saying that, I think I might get murdered in my sleep by somebody, but I gotta stay by Team Edward for sure.
MTV Style: Your character in Vampire Academy escaped from boarding school; what’s the most rebellious thing you’ve ever done?
Zoey: I was such a lame teenager! I never skipped class, ever, not once. I never got anything below an A minus. I don’t think I ever snuck out. Looking back, I know it sounds bad, but I wish I was more fun [laughs].
MTV Style: Do you have any rules when it comes to your style?
Zoey: I like the idea that you do either t*ts or legs, not both, or you’ll just end up looking un-classy [laughs]. Always feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.
MTV Style: Which item in your wardrobe gets the most wear?
Zoey: Probably this blue and white striped babydoll dress that I stole from my mum. It’s so comfortable, with three buttons in the front, and just very easy to wear.
MTV Style: Who’s your celebrity style icon?
Zoey: I love Kate Bosworth, she always looks fantastic, and then Elle Fanning. I just appreciate that she takes risks and basically dresses how she wants to dress. She always looks adorable.
MTV Style: How was it working with Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland on Vampire Academy?
Zoey: It was great, we became friends very quickly, we’re both of the same breed – very hyper – and it was a pleasure to get to know her and work with her. We were both always on the same page about things, when something wasn’t working or whatever, it was nice.
MTV Style: We read on your Twitter bio that your location is ‘in your kitchen/snack pantry’. Are you a foodie?
Zoey: Yeah I am, that’s what motivates me. I go to bed with the excitement of what I’m gonna eat in the morning, or for lunch, or for dinner. I definitely live to eat, not eat to live. I love candy, I love sweets, but my go-to bad food is Lay’s potato chips.
MTV Style: We also read in a tweet that you don’t get why sweaters are called ‘jumpers’…
Zoey: It makes no sense!
MTV Style: What other British words did you pick up on while filming Vampire Academy?
Zoey: The ‘boot’. It’s the trunk. Why would you call it the boot? Boots are what you wear on your feet! I understand bin for trashcan, but boot?
MTV Style: Who would you recommend we follow on Twitter right now?
Zoey: Chrissy Teigan [@chrissyteigan, model and wife of John Legend]. She is so funny.
MTV Style: And finally, why should we all watch Vampire Academy?
Zoey: Because it’s a good time, it’s a fun film and you’ll laugh!
