Thank you to the other people who offered their verdict...don't know how you came up with those bands - especially Sarpanitum (and that Viking metal band...?) - but i appreciate the effort.

Hmmm. No, it isn't them - thanks though.
This band had a violinist; the drummer was just hitting his snare one-handed on the quarter note throughout, keeping time, there was a violinist too - very significant.
The video was just them playing in a room, like it was live (though the music wasn't live obviously), and the singer reminded me very much of Ian Curtis - deep voice, introverted style; the band didn't really move - they were about the music it seems, and not 'looking cool'.
They had a violinist....
