Vanessa Hudgens Heading To Broadway

The Spring Breakers star will take the stage in ‘Gigi’...

It looks like Vanessa Hudgens is moving from a High School Musical to a Broadway musical.

Deadline reports the actress will star in the remake of Lerner and Loewe’s Gigi, directed by Eric D. Schaeffer, who will be “remixing” the original screenplay.

[related]The musical will include a hybrid of songs from both the film and Lerner and Loewe’s 1973 adaptation — with familiar show tunes like Say A Prayer For Me Tonight and Paris Is Paris Again.

Gigi was originally a novel published in 1944 by the French writer Colette, and in 1951 it hit Broadway starring Audrey Hepburn. Lerner and Loewe later laid the blueprint for the Oscar-winning 1958 film starring Leslie Caron.

Schaeffer is no stranger to balancing film-to-musical adaptations, as he directed a National Tour for the Bigmusical and the London run of The Witches Of Eastwick.

While Hudgens is the only cast member announced thus far, more are soon to come through the pipeline as ‘Gigi’ prepares to hit the Big Apple next year.

V-Hudgrecently starred in Spring Breakers and the ultra-violent Machete Kills. She will next be seen in the horror-comedy Kitchen Sink, which features an all-out war between zombies, vampires and humans.
