Spider-Man Supervillain Venom Is Getting A Solo Movie!
And the release date is ALREADY confirmed.
Fans of Marvel’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man might be focused on upcoming reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Sony has slipped out some key info on a new Spidey project of its own, confirming a release date for a Venom solo movie.
Plans have long been in the pipeline for a spin-off film featuring the villainous Symbiote, but it’s been ages since we heard anything official. There isn’t even a director attached to the project that we know of, but that hasn’t stopped the studio announcing a release date of October 5 2018.
So will this Venom movie fit in with the new Spider-Man storyline playing out within the main MCU? Or is this going to be set in a different world / timeline altogether? The idea of a Venom movie with no Spider-Man feels like an odd one, but with Homecoming only dropping this summer, late 2018 seems a pretty quick turnaround for a follow-up.
Word is that Sony are hopeful of launching a brand new franchise based around the character, so it’s possible that the first film will be more of a Spidey-free origin story. Keep your eyes peeled for any Venom-shaped teasers when Spider-Man: Homecoming opens in the UK on 7 July 2017.
