Green Day Triumph at VMAs

And the winners are...

VMAs 2005 are on MTV UK Tuesday at 17:00, Wednesday at 23:00, Saturday at 17:00 and Sunday at 14:00
The 2005 MTV Video Music Awards rolled into Miami on Sunday. Hosted by Diddy, the 22nd annual awards ceremony boasted more music and celebrities than ever before.
Green Day were the big winners of the night picking up six Moon Men. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" garnered "Video of the Year," "Best Group Video," "Best Rock Video," "Best Direction in a Video," "Best Editing in a Video," and "Best Cinematography."
The night began with stars flooding the white carpet as they arrived in a succession of flash cars and yachts. The Game, Green Day, Ludacris, Shaquille ONeal, Snoop Dogg, Lil Kim, and Nelly wowed the crowds as they showed off their seriously pimped-out rides and proceeded to take part in an ad hoc motor show-down. Meanwhile, Usher, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson and Ricky Martin all opted to sail into the arena.
Once inside, Diddy kicked off the party with an explosive water and fire show, as dancers pulled off spectacular aerial manoeuvres from 25 feet in the air. Green Day were the first act on stage with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," complete with dramatic pyrotechnics.
An early highlight saw Missy Elliott and Ciara introduce Ludacris and Bobby Valentino to the stage, who were then joined by drummers and dancers from Brazil, South Africa and Trinidad for a spectacular performance of "Pimpin All Over the World".
There was a chance for some nostalgia as the 2005 awards marked the welcome return of Beavis & Butt-Head. Throughout the show the animated pair kept the crowds amused as they revealed the nominees for Viewers Choice.
A VMA exclusive saw R. Kelly perform Chapter 12 of his hit single "Trapped In a Closet" in a theatrical one-man show, single-handedly acting out all of the characters from his video series.
The Killers were among the acts appearing from nearby locations via satellite link ups, performing their track "Mr. Brightside" beside a hotel swimming pool. Back in the arena, Diddy took a moment to remember the late Notorious B.I.G. , conducting a full orchestra as Snoop Dogg joined in the tribute to the rapper.
The first Brits on stage were Coldplay, whose rendition of "Speed of Sound" saw Chris Martin running into the crowd.
Kanye West performed his smash hit "Gold Digger" in a club-style setting, featuring backing vocals from Jamie Foxx. At the end of their performance, the audience got a surprise when money started shooting out onto the stage.
Desperate Housewives Eva Longoria took the show to its second remote location, poolside at the National Hotel, as Mariah Carey belted out an energetic medley of "Shake It Off," and "We Belong Together." The crooner was joined by her surprise special guests Jermaine Dupri, Jadakiss, and DJ Clue and Styles P.
50 Cent, with Mobb Deep and Tony Yayo, kept the energy up as he performed a blend of "Disco Inferno," "Outta Control," and "So Seductive." 500 tambourines clamoured along throughout the frenetic performance. Then Diddy surprised the crowd as he brought on unannounced performers My Chemical Romance, who rocked their hit "Helena" as 300 white umbrellas appeared in the crowd with Helena revealed under a single red umbrella. The show came to a dramatic close with Kelly Clarksons performing "Since U Been Gone" with rain cascading down onto the audience.
