Lukas Graham Are Finding Fame Strange But Please, No Selfies…
They’re up for Best New Artist against Zara Larsson, Bryson Tiller, Desiigner and DNCE this Sunday at the 2016 MTV VMA, but Lukas Graham are “feeling good” and can’t wait to treat us to their pre-show performance.
Speaking to the band during a sneak peek of the set for this year’s ceremony at Madison Square Garden, the Danish group revealed about their performance: “[We’re] feeling good, feeling very relaxed. We’re performing ‘Mama Said’ - it’s gonna be fun, lots of live music, lots of energy.”
On what it’s like coming from their home town of Christiania in Denmark, to New York City for one of the biggest nights in the music calendar, singer Lukas added: “Our goals, our dreams and ambitions have always been towards performing live music across the globe and so when we were told we were performing at The Billboard Awards or being nominated for a VMA, they’re like extra bonuses.
“We’re like, ‘Woah, are we even in that league where we get nominated for a VMA?’ And yet our name is right down there among the other nominees. It’s very, very strange coming from a country of five and a half million people.”
Bassist Magnus added on rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in music: “It’s exciting because so many of these people, we’ve been listening to their music for years and they’ve been huge inspirations for us and it’s amazing to have a chance to say hello!”
When asked about how they’re coping with their rising fame, Lukas said: “I wish we could not ever get recognised on the streets, do no selfies and still perform music all over the world. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s going to be the case but I’m doing my best to just keep my feet on the ground and my eyes on the prize.”
Get used to it guys!
