Angela Bassett Talks Whitney Houston Biopic
The director has spoken out about the upcoming Houston biopic...
Bassett is to make her directorial debut with the Lifetime movie, and has spoken to Entertainment Weekly about the forthcoming project.
On whether the film will address Houston’s death, she said: "No. That's one of the things I do appreciate about the story at least, with this first story about her. We're not interested in dragging her life again through, you know, the muck.
"She had to play out her choices, and the consequences of them, in a very hot, glaring spotlight, but we're not interested in dragging that through again."
The movie is set to focus on Houston’s unstable relationship with husband Bobby Brown, although having spent time with them both on the set of Waiting to Exhale, Bassett has revealed she found Brown to be “supportive” of his wife.
She explained: "He wasn't loud. He wasn't over the top. He wasn't a showboat. He was grounded. His energy felt grounded and serious and supportive and loving. Without trying."
Yaya DaCosta has landed the lead role in the biopic, which is to air on Lifetime next year.
