Wolfmother Put on Spanking Good Show
The Aussie rockers bring the house down, with Fields, the Maccabees and Forward Russia joining in...
panking New On Tour, Wednesday Nov 15, Brixton Academy
They've been heralded by NME as the "best new band in Britain" and opening up for the last night of MTV2's Spanking New Music tour, The Maccabees delivered a set tighter than Johnny Borrell's drainpipes.
After warming up their army of fans with new material, the Brighton five-piece really got the crowd going with their most recent tune 'Latchmere'.
Adjusting the tempo knob a tad to twinkly folk-meets-airy electro, Fields were next up - the insistent riff on 'Song For The Fields' sparked a toe-tapping, head-nodding fest.
Next up were Forward Russia! (we wish we had a downwards-facing exclamation mark key here, but for now you can imagine ) who put on a raucous show.
Running through their number-based tunes and upsetting sexists the world over, drummer Katie put in a powerhouse performance.
By now the crowd were well up for headlining act, Wolfmother.
The unashamed Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath devotees filled the cavernous academy with stomping beats, catchy riffs and shrill vocals.
Possessing an impressive set list, 'Woman' was pick of the bunch and prompted bodies to go flying.
The obligatory encore was followed by a good ol' fashioned instrument bashing session with the drums getting a right good old going over. Crazy stuff, roll on the next one...
