American ‘Terrorism Expert’ Apologises For Annoying Birmingham
Twitter spits back as bloke on Fox News says Birmingham is “totally Muslim”...
When will people learn that if Britain’s online community gets stung, it’ll bite back with the full and collective force of a nation spurned?
In an interview on Fox News yesterday, self-titled ‘terrorism expert’ Steve Emerson claimed that Birmingham was a “totally Muslim” city where “non-Muslims just simply don’t go.”
And it gets worse. He went on to claim that London had “Muslim religious police” who beat up anyone not wearing “religious Muslim attire”. He also stated that there were other cities in the UK which operate sharia courts and outside the laws of the British Government and police.
So it came as no surprise to see residents of Britain’s second city jump on the hashtag #foxnewsfacts to voice their displeasure and tell Emerson exactly what’s what.
And once the world had been put straight about Brum’s BT tower being part of the biggest mosque in the world and Islamic loyalists dressing their homes in Burqas, Twitter just couldn't help carrying on the fun.
The Queen in particular proved easy pickings.
Between all the sly jabs and sarcasm, someone saw fit to point out one of the real issues at hand, which is the lack of racial diversity that Fox News has as a station.
In the face of the backlash, Emerson has apologised for his error, calling the city “beautiful” and pledging a donation to the Birmingham’s children’s hospital to demonstrate how “deeply sorry” he is for his "terrible error".
As it turns out, Emerson has been called “as an expert witness on terrorism related issues by at least six congressional committees”. In a nutshell, this means he's advised on terrorism at one of the highest levels that you can get in the States.
Someone needs to have a word with Obama.
