The UK’s First Mermaid School Has Opened – Where Do We Sign Up?!
Packing our bags and moving to Cornwall as we type…
Ariel may have wanted to be “where the people are”, but we’re all about being where The Little Mermaid is, and that is under the sea. Which is exactly why we’re running away to Cornwall to attend the UK’s first mermaid school.
Freedive UK specialises in freediving courses, where participants learn to hold their breath deep underwater, rather than using an oxygen tank to breathe. The real mermaid-y part comes when you put on a tail – similar to a monofin (two flippers joined together) – but with smaller fins.
“The course revolves around learning to become comfortable under the water, whilst wearing a full, professional mermaid tail and fin,” reads Freedive UK’s website.
“Its not all about swimming in a straight line though, we teach you how to pose, move in 3 dimensions, swim with your eyes open and generally to remain looking good despite everything else!
“After the pool session we aim to go to the sea for some more photo opportunities.”
Mermaid selfies. JUST THINK OF ALL THE INSTAGRAM LIKES!
The one-day courses will run once per month, on Saturdays, from May 2015. Check out Freedive UK’s website for all the info you need and start practicing your in-shower hair flips.
Just look out for any Ursula-alikes. Urgh.
