John Cena Appears On EPSN: 'NXT Is The Foundation Of WWE's Future'
John Cena reckons NXT is the foundation of WWE's future, believing the division helps future stars prepare to perform for large live audience without fear of 'stage fright'.
The US champ told ESPN SportsCenter host Jonathan Coachman NXT is a testing ground for WWE roster hopefuls to “find themselves”.
Asked how about NXT's importance, Cena said: "You can see the foundation of the future of WWE [in NXT], you can see WWE’s next megastars."
He continued: "This is where everything starts. It would be like watching the equivalent of college football as opposed to the NFL, or Minor League Baseball as opposed to the Major Leagues.
"This is where we will get the next superstar that’s going to be in the middle of that ring surrounded by the WWE Universe.
"I think it is a fantastic program and the show is second to none.
"These NXT performers all deserve a spot here [in WWE] and I can’t wait to hopefully get in the ring with my next counterpart."
Cena also emphasised that NXT is not just about rolling stars off the production line to mimic his main event approach.
He said: "If we find another John Cena, that is one way too much. There’s only room for two, my dad and me.
"I don’t think it is about finding the next John Cena, I think it is about [the performers] finding themselves as NXT superstars.
"And the environment down there… the audience is intense. It is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. They’re very interactive in how they mould the personalities of these superstars.
"So I think it is about these young performers finding themselves so when they get here they don’t have stage fright, they can really go out and knock it out of the park and be embraced by a larger audience."
