Sasha Banks And Bayley Hope To Face Each Other At Wrestlemania
NXT TakeOver: Respect stars Bayley and Sasha Banks hope to carry their rivalry to the Wrestlemania stage one day.
The two stars joked they had previously performed in dark matches before last night's excellent main event bout, the first time two female performers headlined a WWE special show, and hoped their series could continue for years to come.
Speaking about being a main eventer, Bayley said: “It seems like we’ve been fighting for that position since we started. We’ve always had that same goal, along with Charlotte and Becky, and we finally did it.
“And to any doubters that were out there, I just hope they know that it is possible and it is not going to stop here, we’re going to keep it going for years.”
Sasha added: “We’re changing the game. This right here, NXT — we’re making history. It is going to keep getting bigger and better and better and better. I look forward to the future and seeing where it is going to go.”
Asked whether last night's match could prove to be her final appearance for NXT, Sasha continued: “I already told her I don’t want to go! This is my home. This is where I grew up, where I began.”
Turning to Bayley, she said: “If this is my last one — and who knows in WWE — I’m so lucky that I got to be in the ring with you.
“I know in years to come, and at Wrestlemania, this is going to happen again. I don’t know what we’re going to do but it’ll be crazy!”
WWE boss Stephanie McMahon commented on the match: “It goes way beyond women’s wrestling - but it is a history-making moment. For the first time in WWE history — let alone NXT history — the main event of a special was the women’s championship match.
“It did absolutely over-deliver. I was hearing chants like ‘match of the year’, ‘this is awesome’, ‘this is wrestling’ and ‘women’s wrestling’. And our fans say it best.”
She added: “The sky’s the limit where we go from here. I’ve heard them [all of NXT’s developed female performers] say they want to main event Wrestlemania, so the only way is up.”
