The Rock Hails #WWE Mentor Pat Patterson - Please Come Back For Wrestlemania, @TheRock!
- Be warned, this article contains a couple of swears. Blame The Rock, potty mouth (please don't Rock Bottom us for that)
Now then, it seems there are a few rumours doing the rounds that The Rock may not be taking part in next year's Wrestlemania.
Apparently, there's some unconfirmed chatter going about concerning insurance and- IT DOESN'T MATTER ABOUT THE ROCK'S INSURANCE PREMIUMS.
HE IS THE BIGGEST STAR IN THE FLIPPING UNIVERSE. DO YOU THINK THE SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT GIANT THAT IS WWE AND THE FORCE OF NATURE THAT IS THE ROCK CAN'T HANDLE SOME HEALTH AND SAFETY ADMIN?
HOW DO YOU THINK THEY BECAME THE SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT GIANT THAT IS WWE AND THE BIGGEST STAR IN THE FLIPPING UNIVERSE? NOT BY HAVING PLANS FOR THEIR (POTENTIALLY) BIGGEST SHOWS EVER DERAILED BY FORM-FILLING, AND THAT'S THAT.
Apologies, caps lock got stuck. But our fingers were shouting against the keys as we typed too, coincidentally.
Seriously though, after his extraordinarily brilliant turn cameo at this year's Wrestlemania alongside UFC megastar Ronda Rousey, the biggest (potentially) Wrestlemania of all time would not live up to its billing without some form of involvement from The Rock.
Even if he is a guest timekeeper, that'd be enough (it wouldn't really).
Even if he is a guest merchandise flogger, that'd be enough (it wouldn't really).
We want him in the ring, introducing boots to bottoms and doing the whole turning it sideways as part of the process. And if he could do that in conjunction with La Rousey, all the better.
That's the thing with The Rock. He is indisputably the biggest crossover star into the mainstream to ever make his name in WWE's ring. He is a phenomenon and phenomenal.
And he obviously still loves WWE, as evidenced by his frequent social media references to the company and his wrestling past. One Instagram post from yesterday was particularly touching.
#TBT 2013 becoming #WWE Heavyweight Champion for the 8th time. First person to congratulate me backstage was WWE Hall of Famer and close family friend Pat Patterson - one of the greatest mentors I've ever had in the world of sports entertainment. At 23yrs old I called Pat and told him I was training to get into the business. He said "What business?". I said "the wrestling business". He said with great clarity, "Why the fuck would you want to do that?". He eventually agreed to come watch one of my ring workouts in Tampa, and after the session I said "Do you think I have what it takes?". He simply said "Just keep working". He immediately went home and called Vince McMahon and said "Vince you gotta see this kid, I think he can be great one day". One week later I had my very first tryout match for the WWE in Corpus Christi, TX in front of 15,000 people. Pat has been instrumental in creating some of the greatest storylines (Rock vs Austin, Rock vs HHH) and matches of my entire career and I'm forever grateful for his guidance and knowledge. He's also responsible for dropping the greatest lines ever... in this picture he literally said "My God Rock when you won the title tonight the people went FUCKING BANANA!" For some reason he always forgets the "s". . #PatPatterson #Legend #Mentor #Grateful
Now it may be that The Rock, who recently announced he is set to become a dad again with girlfriend Lauren Hashian, may want to concentrate on the baby daughter coming his family's way. And that is fair enough.
But if there is an issue with insurance, surely the mighty achievers that he is and WWE are can overcome?
I was raised by and live with amazing and strong women, so the universe felt we needed one more... IT'S A BABY GIRL!! THANK YOU guys so much for the awesome support and love you've sent @laurenhashianofficial and myself from around the world. We're so grateful for this blessing and thrilled to share the news with y'all. #BringOnMoreEstrogenInOurHome #MeAndPuppyHobbsAreTheOnlyDudes #2xProudPapaBear #JustOverHereMakingBabiesAndStuff #AndPalmingPregnantBellys
Fingers crossed. Toes crossed. And legs crossed into a figure four leglock.
Also, this thing he's doing on Sunday with Oprah looks fascinating.
When asked by Oprah what the key elements were for me getting thru my multiple bouts with depression, I told her the only anchor I was able to hold onto during those hard times was faith. Look forward to sharing more life lessons with you guys this SUNDAY at 8pm on #MasterClass #OwnNetwork #WeveAllBeenDown #AndDeserveToGetBackUp
The Rock: solid as.
