Watch WWE Star And Toon Fan Adrian Neville Recall Having His Heart Broken At First Ever Footy Match
The Jumping Geordie loves NUFC - but Matt Le Tissier brought him to tears on his first trip to St. James' Park...
Like most Geordies, NXT standout Adrian Neville worships Newcastle United FC and prefers to do so at St. James’ Park.
However - despite his deep love for the Magpies - the 28-year-old can still remember the pain of his team losing on his first ever visit to the Toon’s hallowed home ground.
Speaking exclusively to MTV during his most recent trip home as part of WWE’s UK tour, Adrian managed to make time for a trip to NUFC - even poking his head round the door of the first team's locker room.
Standing pitch side, the aerial master recalled: “I remember my first match here, I came with my dad.
“We sat down in the Gallacher End, with me sat on his shoulders.
“It was Newcastle-Southampton and I can remember Matt Le Tissier, he scored with a free kick that broke my heart.”
Adrian also revealed a fondness for another local institution – the Angel of the North.
Describing the 20 metre tall steel sculpture as an “iconic symbol of the north east”, Nev added that the controversial piece of public art has always acted as beacon signalling he is almost home when returning from wrestling dates.
“I’d often come up here just to take five minutes from the world and take it all in,” he said.
“I can remember countless nights when I’d be on the road for hours and hours travelling back from a weekend away in and I’d be exhausted, I'd be shattered and then suddenly, on the horizon, I’d see this old girl and I knew I was back home.
‘It’s definitely got a very important place in my heart and I’ll always look at the Angel and think of home and know that when I see her I’m close to home.”
