WWE: Cody Rhodes Praises Dad Dusty Rhodes As "World Class Family Man" In Eulogy
Cody Rhodes has described his dad Dusty Rhodes as "a cowboy of the old republic, the last bastion of southern wrestling” and “a master orator who spit fire” in a moving eulogy.
"Although his profession claimed so much of his identity, it was such a miniscule portion of the man," said the American Dream’s youngest son, who added Rhodes would always put his family first.
"Getting over with your family and extended family trumped all. You were a world class family man,” said the 29-year-old.
Cody also told of his hopes his father would recover, having been hospitalized in a fall last week.
“I didn’t leave, I sat by his bedside throughout the night,” he recalled.
"I rallied behind the vital numbers displayed, because as his heart rate would calm down a few beats my heart would flutter… I thought he was getting better.”
Among the WWE personalities paying their respects at the memorial service in Tampa, Florida were the McMahon family, Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Neville, Tyson Kidd, Natalya, Booker T, Eva Marie, Paige, Titus O’Neil, Big E, Brie Bella and Renee Young.
