WWE: Jushin Liger Announced For NXT Brooklyn Show!
Jushin Liger will face Tyler Breeze at the NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn special event next month, WWE has confirmed.
The Japanese wrestling legend, 50, is regarded as a major influence on the light heavyweight high-flying style in his home country and the US for over 25 years - but has never displayed his skills on WWE's stage before.
A record-setting 11-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight champion for New Japan Pro Wrestling - a belt also previously held with distinction by current NXT champ Finn Balor - Liger also enjoyed success early in his pioneering career for England's All-Star Wrestling and Canada's Stampede Wrestling before going on to wow American audiences in the early 1990s in a series of matches with Brian Pillman.
He returned to WCW for another stint as Monday Nitro launched in the mid 1990s, and has continued to be a standout international performer for Mexican, US independent and British promotions while maintaining his status as a exalted figure in Japan.
According to NJPW's website, WWE approached the promotion to book Liger for the show as a "special guest". It is unknown whether his bout against Breeze will be his only appearance for NXT.
