Triple H Says Smart Fans 'Want To Go In Opposite Direction To WWE Storylines'
Company chief told Stone Cold Steve Austin some fans react negatively as the company builds up new stars “the second they see us getting behind someone to ‘push’ them”
Triple H has suggested some ‘smart fans’ of WWE are contrary to the point where they deliberately react in an oppositional fashion to storylines.
Discussing Roman Reigns’ recent Royal Rumble win - which saw the fan favourite booed heavily by the live audience in Philadelphia - with Steve Austin, the former 13-time champ dropped several ‘insider’ terms after Austin suggested ‘kayfabe is dead’.
Speaking on a special recording of the Rattlesnake's podcast airing on the WWE Network, Triple H said such fans react negatively as the company builds up new stars “the second they see us getting behind someone to ‘push’ them”.
“That component of just telling a storyline and people accepting that storyline for what it is as a storyline is gone because a large portion of your audience just buys into that,” he said.
“Another large portion of your audience, they know everything that goes on, every five minutes of every day. They know more about what’s happening sometimes than we do.
“I think you get to point where they just want to go the opposite direction - they want to see a certain thing, they believe a certain type of thing is what works.”
The company chief, 45, used other wrestling insider expressions such as “heels” during the frank chat, in which he also discussed CM Punk and the future of Brock Lesnar.
