Treble Clef

MTV News talks to Wyclef Jean about his new material, old friends and UK talent

Hes sold over 20 million records and worked with the biggest names in the business including Bob Dylan, Tupac, Bono, The Rolling Stones, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

Now Wyclef Jean is back with his latest solo album Carnival: Volume 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant.

As you might expect of a man with a star-studded contacts book, Clef has enlisted the help of some serious A-listers " Shakira, Mary J Blige, T.I., Paul Simon, Will.i.am, Nicole Scherzinger " and, on the first release (Sweetest Girl), Lil Wayne and Akon:

Yo lets set the record straight, me and Akon go back to the Fugee days, Clef told MTV News. Pick up the first Fugee album - Fu-Gee-La [the remix] and Akons on there. So this for me is like a return to the original Refugee Camp.

On the production side Wyclef has recently been in the studio with one of the UKs finest female talents " Estelle " on her new album Shine.

Of the New York based Brit, Clef proclaimed: Estelle reminds me of a young Lauryn Hill. She is the best talent Ive come across in a minute, and I say that because of the way she does her melodies. I havent seen that in the studio since Lauryn Hill.

Carnival: Volume 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant is released on the 27th of November
