Wyclef Jean Shot In Haiti
He’s recovering well…
Wyclef Jean was shot in the hand on 19 March while in Haiti.
The rapper was rushed to hospital but was released after receiving treatment. His spokesman reassured fans via a short post on Twitter: “We have spoken to Wyclef, he is OK. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
The incident took place in the town on Delmas, just outside the capital Port-au-Prince. It’s thought the star was travelling in a car withBusta Rhymes and others late on Saturday night when it was peppered with bullets.
Tensions are running high in Haiti as it prepares for its first presidential elections since the earthquake which devastated the country and left one million people homeless.
Wyclef, who was born in Haiti but grew up in America, had made a bid to run for office. At the time he said: “I would like to tell The Fugeesstar was ruled ineligible due to strict residency rules.
Instead, he became a high profile supporter of one of the candidates, fellow musician Michel Martelly, and this could have made him a target for violence, insiders believe.
The gunman was not found.
