8 Reasons We’re BFF Shipping Grimmy and Rita

Why the BFFs are the best X Factor judges yet

The new X Factor judges this year are total baes, with BFFs Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora officially our fave judges ever.

Here are eight reasons we love Grita, both on and off the judging panel.

1.They are 100%living their childhood dreams.

Grimmy landed big TV and radio roles at just 23 and since then has totally aced it,bagging the most sought-after DJ job of Radio 1 Breakfast Show host in 2012.

He told Cosmopolitan magazine: “I always wanted to be on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, and my dad was always like ‘No, you have to say something broader,’…It’s like saying you want to be an astronaut or a footballer – people think you’re mad, but my sister always said ‘some people ARE astronauts and footballers so if you want it then go for it.”

Rita says her childhood dream, like that of many kids, was to become a singer, and it was dogged determination that made it a reality. “‘I started doing music when I was six – I never grew out of it”. And at 24 she’s clearly killing it.

2. They’re all about their fam.

Grimmy’s famously close to his parents, often involving them in his radio show and taking them along to celeb interviews. He likes the fact that they’re generally underwhelmed with his stardom and celeb friends, with his dad saying he’d only watch The X Factor if it didn’t clash with Match of the Day. He attributes his work ethic to them too, “My parents had incredible work ethics and it’s had this knock-on effect on me so I can’t lie around watching daytime TV – I have to be reading a book or having a meeting.”

Rita is fiercely tight withher family and has given her parents her million pound pad in London, as well as involvingher siblings in her business ventures.

3. They always bring it for charity.

Grita have hosted the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards, which celebratethe achievements of some brilliant and inspiring young people.

For Sport Relief, Grimmy’s cycled more than 1000 miles and even tried his hand at gymnastics. He broke down in tears about the children the money was going towards helping. His compassion doesn’t just shine through at big charity events – he was spotted buying a homeless man dinner at The X Factor auditions in Manchester.

Rita’s performed for a bunch of brilliant charities including Chime for Change and Cancer Research, as well as joining Band Aid 30 to support the 2014 Ebola crisis, and appearing in this UNICEF video to help Syrian children affected by the civil war there.

4.They haven’t forgotten their roots.

They may hang out with all the celebs these days, but they’re still totally grounded. At the X Factor Judges’ Houses episode, Nick took his category to perhaps the least glamorous location ever – Oldham in Greater Manchester (where he grew up).

Rita, originally from Kosovo, has said she’ll always have a place in her heart for the country her parents were forced to flee from when she was a child. In fact, she was named an honorary ambassador for Kosovo earlier this year and has pledged to help young people in the country.

5. It’s clear they are the most compassionate judges the show has had.

The mega harshness of the six chair challenge clearly got to them, with Rita even breaking down at one point. They’ve both called out Simon Cowell for being too mean to contestants and have been super supportive of their categories.

And they’re not just nice judges who put contestants at ease, they’re fun too. When Ben Clark took to the mic, Nick described his voice as a taste the difference honey roast ham, while Rita took the opportunity to do some first-class flirting. And behind the scenes they seem pretty happy to hang out with audience members and contestants’ fams.

6.They’re style icons…who don’t take themselves too seriously.

Grimmy’s got his own clothing line at Topman. “I guess they chose me because I’m not snobby. At fashion shows everyone’s so sour-faced. I can’t take it seriously – at the end of the day it’s a cardigan.” Rita often asks his advice on what to wear, sending him pics and asking if she looks ‘mental’, to which he usually replies, "Yes".

7.Rita’s had to work extra hard to get where she is today.

Rita had a difficult start in life when, at just oneyear old, rival groups ripped her home country of the former Yugoslavia apart, and her ethnic-Albanian parents were forced to flee or face prejudice and brutal repression.

They made it to London where she lived with her sister, brother, and her parents in one room. They were determined to make a success of their move, despite none of them speaking any English. Rita and her fam’s determination to nail it at life in their new country paid off. Rita won a place at the renowned Sylvia Young stage school and ten years later is one of the UK's biggest music stars.

8.Nick started out at MTV!

Nick loved his internship at MTV in Camden Town but admits he didn’t exactly pull his weight, spending his timemainly ringing his mates and inviting Amy Winehouse in to hang out. Apparently his boss said, “I really like having you around, but you don’t actually do any work, so I’m going to hire another intern and we’ll keep you on as the Bez of the office.”

MTV and Grimmy still have love for each other in the form of Soundchain, where Nick interviews artists about their passion and relentless commitment to their music. It’s made him realise some important values about making music which will make him an ace X Factor mentor.“If you’re not that bothered you definitely shouldn’t do it, so frame of mind is important and what you need to drive you to success…What I have learnt is if you believe in yourself and don’t try to be someone else that is important.”

If you’re shipping these two as much as we are, let us know!
