Abi Alton Gets The X Factor Boot
Young hopeful loses the sing-off against Hannah Barrett...
Abi Alton has become the fifth contestant to get the boot from the live shows on this year's The X Factor.
The 19-year-old shop assistant lost in the sing-off against Hannah Barrett, where she had performed Ed Sheeran's Lego House.
Nicole Scherzinger had refused to choose between the two girls - both of which she is mentoring - and Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne both revealed that they favoured Hannah's take on Miley Cyrus' recent hit Wrecking Ball.
That sealed Abi's fate, but Louis Walsh went on to reveal that he would have voted to save Hannah too.
On hearing the bad news, she said: "I never in a million and one years anticipated that I would get this far. I've had the time of my life and I've met the most amazing people. I would never change it so thank you."
And on The Xtra Factor she added: "Obviously I'm gutted but I'm so thankful for this experience. I can't put it into words. It's been amazing."
Although she is out of the contest, she will have some consolation in the news yesterday from Simon Cowell that all eight of the acts remaining in the contest this week will be on the live tour next year.
Abi also thanked mentor Nic, saying: "Thank you so much, Nicole. I've really struggled with my confidence in my performances and Nicole has really helped me with that."
It was revealed before the end of the show that Gary Barlow will be performing himself next week - along with Miley Cyrus (but probably not at the same time).
Cheryl Cole is reported to have been offered a job on the show next year.
