Gary Barlow: 'The X Factor Groups Are Strong'
Judge says lack of airtime so far doesn't mean a lack of talent among groups...
Not one group has been shown getting a "yes" from the judges in the first three episodes, leading to speculation among viewers that the category will be the runt of this year's litter.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, judge Gary insisted that the category was likely to provide the solo singers with some stiff competition.
He said: "I don't know if we'll have to put our own groups together this year. The standards of the ones I've seen so far have been surprisingly high.
"I'm very impressed and wouldn't mind mentoring the groups this year."
In previous years the judges have created groups from solo contenders who were not deemed good enough to go it alone in the contest.
We told you yesterday how hopeful Melanie Masson's past as a session singer had been glossed over in the show.
