Lascel Wood Steals The Show On The X Factor
While barmaid Samantha Brookes floors the judges with her booming voice…
Lascel Wood from Brighton stole the show on The X Factor on 10 September when he impressed the judges with a heartfelt performance of Use Somebody by Kings Of Leon.
Before the 20-year-old took to the stage we learnt that he had been in 25 foster homes as a child as his mother suffered from bipolar disorder. He’d brought his mum along to the audition to hear him sing for the first time.
He told Tulisa Contostavlos: “I want to be a singer, there's nothing else I can see myself doing but singing,” before he began the emotional performance, which ended with a standing ovation from all four judges.
Kelly Rowland was in tears, saying “I don't know you but I'm very proud of you… and the relationship you have with your mother is just so beautiful,” while Gary Barlow said Lascel had done an excellent job connecting with the audience. “More so than the beautiful singing, the great pitch, the great timing, more importantly than that was that I believed every single word that you sang to us,” the Take That star said.
Another stand-out performance from last night’s show was from Welsh barmaid Samantha Brookes, who surprised the judges and viewers alike when she belted out Whitney Houston's One Moment In Time and had the entire audience on their feet.
There were many tears from Chrissie Pitt, 26, after her girl group, Twisted, received four ‘no’s. But Kelly was impressed with Chrissie’s vocals so she gave her a choice – audition as a solo artist if you want to progress to the next round.
The Newcastle lass, who got to the latter stages of Boot Camp last year, said she felt “really guilty and unprepared” but returned to the stage on her own and got through with a version of Cee Lo Green’s Forget You.
