Lauren Platt Gets X Factor Semi-Final Boot

Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini set for next weekend's final...

Lauren Platt has been sent home from The X Factor on semi-final week after losing in the sing-off against Andrea Faustini.

A nail-biting results show saw Fleur East and Ben Haenow going straight through to the final, before the other two remaining hopefuls did battle for the third spot.

Platt performed There You'll Be by Faith Hill, while Faustini performed Who You Are by Jessie J.

And despite both contestants impressing, both the neutral judges - Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell - opted to send Platt home.

Simon explained that he was coming down in favour of the contestant who had earned the final place throughout the series.

After her highlights reel, she thanked the public and her mentor Cheryl Fernandez-Versini: "Firstly, I want to say thank you to everybody who voted for me and got me this far.

"Secondly, I want to say thank you to the most incredible women I have ever met in my life."

Ironically, Platt had performed East 17's festive classic Stay Another Day on Saturday night.

And following her departure the remaining contestants got a shock when host Dermot O'Leary led them out of the studio to board their personalised "battle buses".

Each of the coaches was plastered with the name and a huge picture of the finalist on the side.

Next weekend's star-studded finale will feature guest slots from One Direction and Meghan Trainor among others.
