Rylan Clark Gets The X Factor Boot
Controversial contestant loses out in sing-off against Union J...
Rylan Clark has become the eighth act to leave The X Factor this year after losing out in the sing-off against boy band Union J.
The flamboyant 24-year-old had pulled out all the stops with two memorable performances this week, but it was not enough to prevent him from ending up in the bottom two in the public vote.
As the two acts returned to the stage after the final ad break Rylan already appeared to have conceded defeat, giving Gary Barlow a conciliatory hug before he took to the stage to deliver an occasionally off-key version of Wires by Athlete.
Union J followed with their take on Snow Patrol's Run - and only Rylan's mentor Nicole Scherzinger voted to save him as she cast her vote first.
Louis Walsh told Rylan he was a "fantastic guy", but voted to save his own band Union J.
Gary Barlow said he had been a "brilliant contestant" and Tulisa said she was voting to save the act which she thought would sell more records.
Reacting to the news, Clark said: "I feel like I've just been let out of prison."
And he praised his mentor Nicole, saying: "If it weren't for her I don't know what I'd be doing now, this woman has changed my life so thank you."
