Sam Bailey Wins The X Factor 2013
'Screwbo' triumphs over Nicholas McDonald in live final at Wembley...
The prison officer, nicknamed "Screwbo" by the media, had been the hot favourite to win the series for some weeks - and was crowned this year's champion in front of a huge crowd at Wembley Arena.
On hearing the good news, the 36-year-old said: "I don't know what to say. I just want to say that I love that boy [Nicholas] to pieces and he needs to get an album out as well. He's got an amazing voice and I love him to death.
"I can't believe this. I'm so grateful to everybody. I really am appreciative, thank you."
It was announced less than an hour after the end of the show that her debut single will be a cover of Demi Lovato's Skyscraper - and it will be on sale from Wednesday.
And the runner-up remained upbeat despite missing out on the win.
"If I was going to get beaten by anybody it was going to be Sam. Sam is a hard one to beat, but I just want to say thank you to every single person who has voted for me week in and week out.
"This is not the end of me. I know I'll have an album out and I'll see you all on the tour. I love you all."
Both had performed two songs on the night of the verdict, with Luke Friend having been voted out of the contest the previous evening.
