Sam Callahan Gets The X Factor Boot
Young singer loses out to Luke Friend in this week's sing-off...
Sam Callahan has become the sixth contestant to leave this year's The X Factor.
The 19-year-old lost out in the sing-off to fellow youngster, 17-year-old Luke Friend.
Sam's version of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls impressed the judges, but it wasn't enough to save him against Luke with his rendition of U2's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
Louis Walsh refused to choose between his two acts, sending the decision to a majority verdict.
Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow both chose to send Sam home, despite Gary saying Sam had given his "best performance" so far.
An emotional Sam thanked the judges for his time on the show, telling host Dermot O'Leary: "I've had the most amazing time and I have absolutely no regrets. As far as I'm concerned this is just the beginning of a massive, massive adventure. Thank you guys for being a part of it."
Louis said that Sam had been a "fantastic role model" and described him as "the hardest working" contestant he has ever mentored, adding: "He deserves to be successful whatever he does."
The evening saw special guest performances from Miley Cyrus and Gary Barlow.
It's been reported that Sam Bailey looks like a dead cert to win this year's series.
