The Risk and Johnny Robinson get X Factor boot
Boy band and old boy eliminated as judges keep Kitty Brucknell in contest
Boy band The Risk were the first act to depart, having finished bottom of the public vote following their performance of Shalimar's A Night to Remember.
They vowed to stay together as they said their goodbyes to viewers,
Next Johnny and Kitty did battle in the sing-off for the judges - with Johnny delivering an emotional version of Unchained Melody and Kitty doing a powerful take on Kelly Clarkson's Beautiful Disaster.
All four judges were unanimous in deciding to send Johnny home, with his mentor Louis summing up the feeling by saying: "I have to save the person I think in the real world who would get a recording contract and go further.
"I'm not going to cop out, I'm going to make a decision and the act I have to send home is Johnny."
All four judges also complimented Johnny on having been a pleasure to work with, and the 45-year-old seemed smiled and thanked everybody - possibly having expected to go.
He thanked "everybody in the UK that accepted me for just being me", before trying to plant a kiss on a quickly retreating Dermot O'Leary.
