The X Factor 2011: The Live Shows Are Back!

Gary and Kelly’s categories stole the show on Saturday night…

Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland made their debut on The X Factor live shows on Saturday night alongside Louis Walsh.

Sixteen-year-old Amelia Lily kicked off the night with a version of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, in keeping with the week’s ‘Britain vs America’ theme. In the first half of the show, Frankie, Sophie and girl group Rhythmix all received excellent feedback, but Louis’ over-25s weren’t so lucky.

Gary said Johnny’s camp performance of I Believe was “cheap” while Jonjo got negative comments across the board for his nerves and lack of connection with the audience.

The Take That star compared 2 Shoes rendition of Girls Aloud’s Something Kinda Ooooh to “karaoke in Romford”, while Kelly and Louis were disappointed by James’ vocals during his stripped-down performance of The Beatles classic Ticket To Ride.

Nu Vibe’s cover of Chris Brown’s Beautiful People got all the judges shouting at each other, but a few acts did impress the entire panel, even hard-to-please Gary, including Marcus, Samantha and The Risk.

His biggest praise of the night was saved for Misha’s knock-out performance of Rolling In The Deep, which he said was “incredible”, and Craig’s emotional rendition of Jar Of Hearts which he declared “the number one performance of the night”.

Two of the most talked about acts, Kitty and Janet, closed the show. The results of this week’s big twist – that each judge must send home one of their acts – will be revealed on tonight’s show.
