The X Factor: Boys And Overs Cut For Live Shows
First six contestants to make it through judges' houses revealed...
The first half of the contestants set to feature in this year's live shows on The X Factor have been revealed.
Last night's show saw Sharon Osbourne selecting three of the Over 25s and Louis Walsh choosing three boys to progress from the "judges' houses" stage.
The lucky boys were 17-year-old student Luke Friend from Devon, 16-year-old student Nicholas McDonald from Motherwell and 19-year-old barman Sam Callahan from Essex.
And it was only girls allowed in the Over 25s, with 35-year-old Leicestershire prison officer Sam Bailey, 26-year-old student Lorna Simpson, from south London, and 34-year-old van driver Shelley Smith - from Devon - all getting the nod from Shazza.
Among those who didn't make the cut, Joseph Whelan appeared to take it particularly hard.
The 26-year-old builder was in the show for the second year running - having been cut at boot camp last year.
On learning that he hadn't made the finals this time either, he told host Dermot O'Leary: "That's worse than last year. I've come further and done more.
"It's like the end of the world. It hits you so hard when it happens."
Joseph had been praised by guest mentor Robbie Williams - but Sharon Osbourne decided to go with Shelley instead.
There was an instant response from unhappy fans on Twitter and Facebook - with an online campaign to get him back on the show being instigated.
The first of the live shows starts next weekend, when the theme will be the 1980s.
