The X Factor: Final Three Groups Revealed
Louis and Tulisa whittle acts down from six to three in first judges' houses show...
The three groups who will progress to the live shows on this year's The X Factor have been revealed.
Last night's "judges' houses" show saw Louis Walsh and his special helper Tulisa Contostavlos select Blonde Electra (formerly Blonde Electric), Only The Young and the new boy band.
Which meant that the new girl group, Concept and The Brooks went home disappointed.
Dubbed "the female Jedward", Blonde Electra are likely to prove this year's "comedy" act in the finals.
Louis told them: "I love your energy - you're positive, you're quirky, you're different. I love all that. But you know you're not the best singers in the world.
"What I have to think about is, 'Are people going to like you? Are you too quirky?' I'm taking a really big chance putting you through to the live shows.
"Sometimes in this business you have to take a chance. It's been really, really tough girls - I have made my decision. Girls, you're through to live shows!"
Only The Young made the cut despite their mentor's reservations that they might be too nice.
"You're very nice. I think the group is probably a little bit too nice," he told them.
"I'm looking for something with a little bit more edge. I don't know if Only the Young have enough edge. That's been my biggest problem."
And he admitted that putting the new boy band through was a bit of an experiment.
"You have great chemistry and a good work ethic, but something troubles me. An eight-piece boyband, it's never happened before, and I think there must be a reason for that.
"We need fans to connect with everybody in the band and I think with eight people it could be too many people, that's the problem.
"Boys, it's not good news. It's great news!"
And there were uncharacteristic tears from Louis as he bid farewell to the new girl group, saying he knew he'd "broken their hearts".
The veteran judge told Concept he thought they lacked a "spark" and informed duo The Brooks that they were too young, but should definitely come back.
