The 40-year old explained: "I would say she is going places. She's an ambitious girl and she'll get over this, no question."
Gary's fellow panelist Louis also spoke about Cole, adding: "She's fine. There's no bitterness there, not with me anyway."
While Cowell may have quit the UK show to focus on The X Factor USA, it seems Gary is stepping up to be the new Mr. Nasty, with The Sun reporting that the singer unleashed a series of sharp-tongued insults to some hopefuls.

Barlow told one auditionee: "I'm glad you sang another song because now you've been exposed. You were singing different notes. It was all over the place. It was terrible."
The TT star also slammed one aspiring rapper, telling them to: "Go and have some singing lessons, and if you're going to insist on dancing, have some dancing lessons."
