Reports earlier this week revealed that Waissel's granny, Girls Aloud star mentor for support in order to deal with the negative press.
Waissel told the Daily Record: "Cheryl was so brilliant at helping me. She gave me the strength to carry on in the competition."
"She was telling me about when stories were written about how her brother was in prison and how it is very hard to cope."
Katie continued: "She knows how it feels to have negative attention and her advice was brilliant. I'm going to fight to show everyone I deserve my place here."
Meanwhile, Waissel's grandmother has slammed her family's reaction to news that she was being paid for sex, claiming that Katie had been "vicious and vile" when confronting her about the reports.
Sheila told The Sun: "She screamed and shouted at me, saying, 'What are you doing to Mummy, what are you doing to the family?'"
"She thinks I heaped shame on them. But I told her, 'I'm doing what I enjoy - just leave me to do what I want to do.'"
Vogel-Coupe added: "Katie always wanted to be a singer, otherwise she was like any normal kid. Personally, I love Katie as my granddaughter. She owes her talent to me, is doing very well, and I wish her lots of luck."
